We are a mixed choir with over 50 members, singing in four part harmony. All our singers are dedicated to the enjoyment of music and singing and take part in regular performances which helps us raise money for local and national charities.
The choir was founded in 1981 as a ladies choir of 30 members under their conductor Ted Vaughan-Jones. In 1983 it became a mixed choir, with 43 ladies and 20 men, conducted by Gillian Sheldon, and named The Vaughan Singers after its founder and first conductor.
We still have 8 founder members singing with us today. The society is affiliated to N.O.D.A. (National Operatic and Dramatic Association)
What sort of music do we sing? Everything from Bach to the Beatles, we perform a varied mix of music with selections of popular music including ballads and rock and roll through to more traditional classical and liturgical music.
We are always looking for new recruits of all voices and ages. You do not need to have any musical experience, to join all we ask is that you enjoy singing. If you are interested please come along and see us on a Tuesday evening, or go to Contact Us to find out more details.
The Vaughan Singers Celebrated 25 Years in 2007
In this our 25th anniversary year, as in most years our main concert was at Sutton Coldfield Town Hall in aid of Cancer Research UK. Our M.C. for the evening was Michael Collie from the BBC. The concert was very well received and well supported. We have raised well over £2000 for the charity, to add to more than £62,000 we have raised in the past. Our thanks go to past Musical Directors and Accompanists for all their hard work, and all who have sung with the choir over the last 25 years. The Vaughan Singers would also like to thank you our audience for your loyal support, and hope to see you at future Cancer Research UK concerts. Go to our Concert page for details of future concerts.
